Bumper Stickers

The one I turned in is not creative commons so I can’t post it here but here is another one I did. It is about freedom of speech. I used an old piece of paper as the background so it would resemble the constitution. The bold letters are used to make a strong statement.

Reading

I thought the most interesting thing about this piece was the collages made. These collages showed the effects images and words can have on each other. If they are not strongly connected then the whole piece becomes less effective. The other pieces that also included sound also demonstrated this. Media has become a moving thing, it’s not just words anymore. it’s about how words are placed and why. And then you have sounds and pictures to go with those words. Using all of these elements effectively can be a hard job. Thought has to go into placing images with certain words and playing sounds at the right time. Being able to associate these things together gives each one more meaning. Knowing these things will help with my own project.

Video Game Violence

My topic is about video games and how they do not encourage violence. My piece explores personal stories about some of my actual friends and also includes some statistics about the age of gamers.

Changing media

November 12, 2007

This article was interesting because it showed how technology has changed the way we ciew our media. Instead of just reading a book to learn, we now have a vast amount of information readily available on our computers. And this information can be presented in a number of ways. Books lack this feature though. The way web pages are set up affect the way we view certain information. I think this is great. The computer has also changed the context in which we view information. The ability to make posts and give your opinion to people all over the world is a great tool. These things are about to become even more common though. With the invention of portable, palm sized computers, it will be possible to access the internet from almost anywhere. A world of information, 24/7, that fits in your pocket. The iPhone commercials are a good example of how this new technology affects things. They have different people talking about how the iPhone has helped them in everyday life situations.

Fair Use and Copyrights

November 6, 2007

After reading these articles I think the guidelines set up are fair… confusing, but fair. It seems that things started out very simple, but with the introduction of new technology it has become complicated. The line about what is fair use has become a hazy grey shadow. These guidelines interpret this shadow very well though. I also thought the way the crash course web site was set up was very creative. The first page gets it’s point across with interactive selection of sentences. These fair use rules are complicated, but necessary to protect the rights of everyone.

the new game

I picture a parent being very interested in the second audio piece. They are 35 years old and married. A mom who doesn’t have a job but stays busy through house chores and being active in the community. She lives in Arizona and she just has an average family. Her husband has a steady job and she has 2 kids. They are in 8th and 9th grade. Her tasks include doing the bills, making dinner, cooking things for community gatherings, cleaning, running the kids around, and feeding the pets. Oh yeah, she has a dog and cat. Her days are busy but in her spare time she worries about her kids and just hopes that nothing bad will happen to them. She is a loving mother. Her favorite kind of music is r&b. She likes to dance and have fun. She enjoys movies of all types but her favorite kind are suspenseful movies. Her favorite season is fall because she enjoys the colors. She grew up in a small town not far from where she lives now. She got married a couple years out of high school. Her favorite color is green. Her favorite food is spaghetti and meatballs and she loves to drink diet pepsi. She goes to a christian church and is trying to raise a wholesome family.
